THE BIOGAS
We chose to start producing biogas, one of the most popular alternative sources for the production of renewable energy, in 2015 with the installation of our first plant.
Biogas is the result of bacterial fermentation of organic substances (animal or vegetable) without oxygen at a controlled temperature.
The degradation process of biomass is called anaerobic digestion and comes from agricultural residues and zootechnical waste such as manure (compost generated by animal waste plus straw from bedding), integration crops, and waste from meat processing.
The result is composed of biogas, which has a high calorific value that can be converted into electricity and heat thanks to a co-generator. The residue of fermentation is digestate, a liquid material that is used as a natural fertilizer in crops.
In this way we are able to produce clean, renewable, zero-waste energy for our entire company.

THE PIT
In addition to extra virgin olive oil after the process of cold mechanical pressing, we also obtain by-products of milling such as pomace and pits, which we reuse as sources of energy.
In fact, the pomace is used within the biogas to produce methane while the pit is used for heating the farmhouses as it is an excellent natural fuel.
From the combustion of the pit we have charcoal that is added in small doses to the chicken feed to regulate their intestinal functions.
