chickens and turkeys

We only breed slow-growing breeds in the wild that are accustomed to a rural life. Our goal is to offer a healthy, tasty, and excellent quality product without resorting to shortcuts of any kind. This is why we have chosen Label Fermier bare-necked chickens and bronzed and white turkeys.

The bare-necked chicken loves life in the wild. It was born in France where outdoor breeding breeds are an ancient tradition, thanks to the presence of numerous natural farms. It’s sturdy and slender body structure makes it an incredibly vital, great grazer that is always on the move in the open air in our woods and olive groves.

Long walks help to develop greater proportion in the anatomical parts, presenting a long and slender thigh, a less voluminous breast counterbalanced by a stomach twice the size of intensively reared chickens and much more developed wings. This makes our chickens even more capable of flying very small distances. For example, perching on the branches of olive trees. It also has fewer subcutaneous fat deposits, thinner skin and excellent infiltration of intramuscular fat making the flavor of the meat unmistakable and unforgettable.

The turkeys we raise are the bronzed and the white. A slow-growing breed suitable for outdoor grazing, so much so that they can also feed on acorns, brambles and oak leaves. Incredibly social and prone to life in a pack, its body conformation allows it to graze all day until evening in the spaces it wants, not being attacked by nocturnal predators and providing it with a higher content of vitamins and a lower content of fat in the meat.

We particularly care about nutrition because it is one of the most important characteristics for the growth and development of our animals. In fact, we respect their natural food cycle, paying great attention to their diet consisting only of barley, triticale, field beans, corn, soybeans, clean air, lots of green grass, pebbles and some worms caught during long walks outdoors.

It is through these attentions that we guarantee animal welfare, stimulating greater stomach processing, a muscle that in our chickens is twice the thickness of the others. It offers our animals a totally healthier, more robust and complete natural nourishment promoting growth and body development.

Animal welfare is a fundamental part of our breeding philosophy. Free breeding allows us to respect the ethological needs of our animals such as innate behaviors, spontaneous growth cycles, development, and nutrition, minimizing the human influence on their natural conditions and habits. This avoids unnecessary stress and suffering to the animal.

Continuous access to pasture from dawn to dusk allows our animals to feed on grass, a precious source of energy and nutrients and an important natural supplement of vitamins and antioxidant molecules. Together with the motor activity of the animals, their state of health and the quality of their meat improves.
